Insight of the Week: Why Return to Office is Stalling Out
The vast majority of US companies required Full Time In Office pre-pandemic. For Structured Hybrid companies, that requirement has shifted from 5 days in office to 2.54 days; that’s the equivalent of a roughly 50% drop in required office time.
It’s no surprise then that Kastle’s barometer is finding that return to office has flattened out at roughly 50% of pre-pandemic levels. If company policy continues to be 2-3 days / week in office for most companies, expect occupancy rates to stay at their current levels.
Company Spotlight
In the Media
Forbes: Companies allowing remote work outperform on revenue growth, which may be more a reflection of their orientation toward trust than flexible work.
Bloomberg: 84% of Allstate’s new US hires over the past year don’t live near a local office, and Allstate’s remote-friendly open roles get 2x as many applications.
Wall Street Journal: The streaming industry that emerges from the labor battles of 2023 will likely have a lower demand for real estate.
